Blackouts

Already at Tipsy V and still drinking? One more and you black out. It’s harmless: nothing you had is ever lost, you never wake up anywhere unsafe, no time passes, and nobody else is affected. Server owners can switch it off with the blackout option (see Configuration).

  1. You keel over. Your eyes fall shut and you tip over. Everyone around you sees you lying there, stars circling your head.
  2. Black. For a few seconds you can’t move, and nothing can hurt or push you.
  3. You wake up somewhere. While the screen is still black, the game picks where your night ended (see below) and puts you there: lying on the ground, in a bed, or sitting in a boat. Your eyes open slowly, then you get up.
  4. A line on the screen says how it went, Why do you smell like hay? or one of many others.

The whole thing takes about 8.5 s. You wake up:

  • back at Tipsy I, and without the buffs your drinks gave you,
  • hungry: 4 hunger shanks lighter, and nothing in your saturation,
  • shaky for 30 s: a little dizzy and slow,
  • with a souvenir in your pockets, something that fits where you woke up (at your feet if your pockets are full),
  • and, one time in 6, with a carved pumpkin on your head, if you weren’t wearing a helmet.

There are 8 places a night can end, plus one for when none of them works out. Each has its own chance, but only the ones that are possible where you blacked out are in the draw: no water nearby, no boat; no village, no tavern.

  • New ones first: an ending you haven’t had yet is 3 times as likely as one you have.
  • Never twice in a row, unless nothing else is possible.
  • Always safe: solid ground, room to stand, no lava or water, nothing that burns or pricks next to you, no monster within 8 blocks, inside the world border.
  • Never inside someone’s build: the outdoor endings need open sky above, glass and leaves included. The two indoor ones only use what the world built for everyone, a village tavern and a villager’s bed in a village house, and your own bed.
  • In the Nether and the End there’s no open sky, so most nights end right where you fell.

The odds below are for your first blackout with every ending possible. After that they shift: the endings you haven’t had yet get more likely, and the one you just had steps aside.
