Your first drink

This guide takes you from a fresh world to your first glass of red wine, then on to an aged one. You need only vanilla materials to start; the grapes come in along the way. Each step links to the page with all the details.
-
Find wild grapes. Wild plants grow in patches out in the world, each in its own kind of place. For wine you want

Plant a few bushes. Plant the grapes on grass, dirt or farmland, like sweet berries. A bush grows on its own; once it’s ripe, right-click it to pick 2 to 3 grapes. It drops back a stage and fruits again, so you never need to replant. Bone meal speeds it up.

One batch of juice takes 4 grapes and a sugar, so a handful of bushes is plenty to start. More on Crops.

Build a Brew Kettle and put it over a fire. The
Brew Kettle is made of copper. It brews only while
the block right below it is hot: a lit campfire works from day one. It stands on an iron tray above the flames. -
Brew grape juice. Right-click the kettle to open it and put in 4 grapes and a sugar. The arrow fills while the kettle is hot, steam curls out from under the lid, and after 10 s the gauge shows 4 servings of
Grape Juice. If you put in more, it keeps brewing batches. See

Take it out. Right-click the kettle with a glass bottle for one serving, or with a bucket for 4. Grape juice is already a drink of its own: it takes the edge off Tipsy.
-
Fill an Aging Barrel. Place an
Aging Barrel and right-click it with the bucket or the bottles. It
holds 8 servings: two buckets fill it to the brim. Topping it up with more of the same juice
while it ferments is fine. -
Wait for it to ferment. After 1 day the juice has become
Red Wine. The barrel
tells you how it’s doing: the glass airlock on top bubbles while it ferments, and a right-click with an empty hand
shows a status line such as Red Wine · 8 servings · fermenting, ready tomorrow morning. The clock runs on game
time, so sleeping through the night counts. See Aging Barrel. -
Tap a glass. Right-click the barrel with an empty
Wine Glass to tap one serving. Wine goes in a glass,
beer and cider in a
Mug; the barrel tells you if you hold the wrong one.Crafting -
Drink it.
Red Wine gives you
Regeneration3 min and one level of
Tipsy. You keep the glass. Drink at the same moment as a friend nearby
and you get a Cheers!: everyone’s buff lasts 20% longer. -
Let the rest age. Leave the barrel alone for 3 days more and what’s left becomes
Aged Red Wine: a deeper red that shimmers, and
Regeneration II5 min.
A soft cork pop and a red wax seal on top tell you it’s done.
Where to go next
Section titled “Where to go next”- Brew the other drinks: hops and barley for ale, wheat and hops for wheat beer, sweet berries for sweet berry wine. See Drinks and Crops.
- Put a few barrels side by side and build a proper cellar: Building a cellar.
- Mind your limits: what each level of Tipsy does, and how to sober up.
