Crops

Four crops of ours feed the drinks:
Red Grapes for red wine,
White Grapes for
white wine,
Hops for both beers, and
Barley for ale. The other ingredients are vanilla:
Sweet Berries for sweet berry wine,
Wheat for wheat beer,
Apples for hard cider
and
Honey Bottles for mead.

Grape and hop bushes
Section titled “Grape and hop bushes”Plant
Red Grapes,
White Grapes or
Hops on grass, dirt or farmland,
just like sweet berries. The bush grows through 4 stages at the sweet berry bush’s pace. Red and white grapes
grow the same way; only the ripe fruit tells them apart.

- Harvest a ripe bush with a right-click: it gives 2 to 3 grapes (or
2 to 3
Hops) and drops back to its second stage, so it keeps fruiting. You
don’t need to replant. - Bone meal moves it on by one stage.
- Bushes catch fire as easily as sweet berry bushes, so keep campfires and lava away from the vineyard.
Barley
Section titled “Barley”Sow
Barley Seeds on farmland. Barley grows exactly like wheat, through 8 stages, and
drops the same way:
Barley when it’s ripe, plus extra seeds.

Wild crops
Section titled “Wild crops”
Your first seeds come from wild plants. They grow in patches, by biome and temperature, so they also show up in modded biomes that are tagged the usual way. Break one for produce, or use shears to take the whole plant home as decoration.
| Wild crop | Grows in | Drops |
|---|---|---|
| plains and savannas (temperature 0.3 or warmer); never in mushroom fields and caves. With Biomes O' Plenty also: Field, Pasture and Prairie | ||
| forests and plains (temperature 0.6 to 1); never in mushroom fields and caves. With Biomes O' Plenty also: Mediterranean Forest and Orchard | ||
| forests and rivers (temperature 0.5 to 0.8); never in mushroom fields and caves. With Biomes O' Plenty also: Woodland and Seasonal Forest | ||
| forests and mountain slopes (meadows, cherry groves) (temperature 0.4 to 0.6); never in mushroom fields and caves. With Biomes O' Plenty also: Lavender Field and Lavender Forest |
Farmers and the wandering trader sell seeds too, and village chests sometimes hold some. See Villages & taverns.
Farm life
Section titled “Farm life”- Bees pollinate grapes, hops and barley and help them grow, as they do with vanilla crops.
- Animals:
Barley feeds and breeds cows, sheep and goats like
wheat does. Horses and llamas heal and grow up on it just as they do on wheat, and on the
Barley Bale as on a hay bale.
Barley Seeds feed chickens and parrots, and you can breed foxes with grapes. - Foxes love grapes, red and white: they pick ripe grapes off the bushes, just like they raid sweet berry bushes. They leave vines on ropes alone, and they stop when mob griefing is off.
- Farmers plant and harvest barley in their fields and compost spare seeds. Grapes and hops they leave to you.
- Composter: every crop composts with vanilla’s chances.

Storage blocks
Section titled “Storage blocks”
Pack nine of a crop into a
Red Grape Crate,
White Grape Crate,
Hops Crate or
Barley Bale, and unpack it
again in the crafting grid. The
Barley Bale is a hay bale in every way: it softens a fall, a campfire on top of
it sends its smoke up high, and llamas and horses eat it.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Pick, don’t break. Breaking a bush that isn’t ripe drops nothing, and the plant is gone. Breaking a ripe one drops its fruit (more with Fortune), but a right-click picks it and keeps the bush.
- Walk right through. Grape and hop bushes don’t prick or slow you the way sweet berry bushes do.
- Light and water: a bush only grows in good light. Water washes bushes away, and pistons pop them.
- Grapes are a snack, like sweet berries.
- More wild plants: bone meal on a wild crop often plants another one nearby, an easy way to get your first seeds. Wild barley mostly drops seeds; the grain is a lucky extra.
- Farmland under barley never turns back into dirt, as with any crop.
- Vines on ropes (with Farmer’s Delight) need light too: in the dark they break, and breaking a vine gives the rope back. You can climb a vine like a rope, and bone meal on a full-grown plant passes up to the vine above it.
- Bees never make a bush climb a rope; only you can start that.
Seasons
Section titled “Seasons”With Serene Seasons installed, the crops have their seasons: grapes, red and white, grow in autumn, hops in summer and autumn, and barley in spring and summer. See Compatibility.
