Vine & Barrel tries to feel like part of the game. Almost everything below works like something you already know from vanilla or Farmer’s Delight, so you can guess the controls without reading. This page lists them all in one place; the mechanic pages explain them in more detail.
Aging Barrel
Section titled “Aging Barrel”
- Placed facing you, tap toward you, like a furnace.
- Racks: barrels side by side with the same facing join their cradles, like fences connect.
- Stacks: a barrel on a barrel rests on chocks instead of a cradle. Build a cellar wall.
- The bung shows the stage: cork, bubbling airlock while fermenting, red wax once aged.
- Fermenting is audible: bubbles from the airlock, getting rarer as it finishes.
- The tap drips now and then while there’s drink inside, in the drink’s colour, like honey from a hive.
- The aged moment: a soft cork pop when the batch turns aged.
- Pour in with a bucket or bottle, like filling a cauldron. Until it’s a drink, an empty bucket or bottle takes it back.
- Tap with an empty mug or glass, like taking a serving from a Farmer’s Delight feast. The wrong vessel gets a hint and isn’t used up.
- Status line on an empty-hand right-click. An anvil name shows up in it.
- Comparator reads the servings left.
- Break it full and it keeps its batch, like a shulker box. Aging pauses until you place it again.
- Dispensers tap with a vessel or pour in a base. Hoppers feed it and empty it.
See Aging Barrel.
Brew Kettle
Section titled “Brew Kettle”- Supports, like the cooking pot: an iron tray over a campfire, fire or lava; flush on other heat; sneak and right-click with an empty hand to hang it from a handle.
- The lid lifts while someone has the screen open, like a chest. A finished brew keeps it up, and you can see the brew inside, sinking as you take servings.
- While brewing, steam curls from under the lid and the lid rattles. When done, a puff of steam.
- Right-click with a bottle or bucket to fill it, like a cauldron.
- Break it full and it keeps its contents.
- Comparator gives a signal while anything is inside. Hoppers feed ingredients and empty containers in, and pull the filled ones out below.
- Copper: it weathers over time; honeycomb waxes it, an axe scrapes it, lightning cleans it.
- Recipe book in its screen.
See Brew Kettle.
Drinks and vessels
Section titled “Drinks and vessels”
- Set drinks down: sneak and right-click the top of a block with a mug or glass, full or empty. Up to four per block, like candles. Right-click with an empty hand to pick one up.
- Cheers! Two or more players finishing a drink within 3 seconds and 5 blocks of each other clink glasses, and everyone’s buff lasts 20% longer.
- Drinking sounds and looks like a potion, and you get the empty vessel back.
- Buckets of juice and wort can’t be poured out as a liquid, like milk.
- Other players see you sway and see your hiccups.
- Sleep it off: sleeping through the night clears Tipsy.
- Milk clears it; water or any juice lowers it by one level.
- Hover over the effect in your inventory to see what your level does.
- One drink too many at the top level and you black out. Where you wake up is anyone’s guess.
See Tipsy.
Crops and farm life
Section titled “Crops and farm life”- Bushes are picked with a right-click and drop back a stage, like sweet berries.
- Bees help grapes, hops and barley grow.
- Barley feeds and breeds animals like wheat; its seeds feed chickens and parrots.
- Farmer villagers plant and harvest barley.
- Foxes pick ripe grapes, red and white, like they do sweet berries.
- Every crop composts.
- The
Barley Bale softens a fall and lifts campfire smoke like a hay bale.
See Crops.
- Village taverns have barrels that are already full, waiting to be tapped. See Villages & taverns.
- JEI shows brewing and aging recipes, plus info pages for the barrel and the wild crops. Jade shows what’s in a kettle or barrel when you look at it. See Compatibility.
