Animal feed
Two items are made for your animals rather than for you. Right-click a tamed animal with one in your hand: it heals to full health and gets a set of buffs for 5 minutes.

Feeding your animals
Section titled “Feeding your animals”Dog Food works on the tamed animals listed above. Each feeding uses one Dog Food and gives you the Bowl back.
It’s also a normal bowl of food, so if you eat it yourself it restores 2 hunger shanks.
Horse Feed works on any tamed horse-like mount. Horses also follow you while you hold it, just like they do for
Enchanted Golden Apples, 
Golden Apples and 
Golden Carrots. You can’t eat it
yourself.
A heal plus buffs makes either one perfect right before a fight or a long ride. The items’ tooltips also list what they do.
Recipes
Section titled “Recipes”Dog Food cooks in the Cooking Pot, so it needs heat and a bowl to serve. Horse Feed is crafted.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Not for breeding. Feeding heals and buffs the animal, but it doesn’t breed it or count as its normal food.
- Creative mode doesn’t use up the food.
