Wild crops & worldgen

Wild crops are where every Farmer’s Delight farm starts. They look like leafy tufts with a small flower on top and break as easily as tall grass. Break one by hand for its seeds or crop, and a single find is enough to start a field.
Seven kinds grow in the world:
Wild Cabbage,
Wild Onion,
Tomato Shrub,
Wild Carrot,
Wild Potato,
Sea Beet and
Wild Rice. Beach patches also bring
Sandy Shrubs.
Where to find them
Section titled “Where to find them”Wild crops grow in patches: a fitting chunk only rarely has one, but a patch holds many plants, so when you spot one, look around for more.
| Plant | A patch in about | Look in |
|---|---|---|
| 1 in 30 chunks | Coast & rivers | |
| 1 in 30 chunks | Coast & rivers | |
| 1 in 120 chunks | Coast & rivers, Swamps, Forests, Mountains, Plains | |
| 1 in 120 chunks | Coast & rivers, Swamps, Forests, Mountains, Plains | |
| 1 in 100 chunks | Coast & rivers, Forests, Mountains | |
| 1 in 100 chunks | Mushroom fields, Dry lands, Mountains | |
| 1 in 20 chunks | Coast & rivers, Swamps, Jungles |
Pick a biome to see what can grow there, and click a plant to jump to its details.
| Plant | How common | Patch size |
|---|---|---|
| 1 in 120 chunks | up to 64 plants | |
| 1 in 120 chunks | up to 64 plants |
The number next to each biome is how many wild plants can grow there. Patches need the right ground under open sky, so cave and ocean biomes hardly ever get one.

The wild crops
Section titled “The wild crops”Each card shows the biomes, the ground the plant needs, what grows around it, and what it drops. Breaking with shears gives you the plant itself, to move it into your garden.
Cabbages
Section titled “Cabbages”Beaches, on sand, mixed with sandy shrubs. Breaking one by hand sometimes gives a whole cabbage on top of the seeds.

Tomato shrub
Section titled “Tomato shrub”The tomato shrub is the wild tomato: hot, dry biomes such as deserts, savannas and badlands, among dead bushes. They never grow in wet biomes like jungles, and they take sand as well as dirt.

Mushroom colonies
Section titled “Mushroom colonies”Brown and red mushroom colonies grow on mycelium in mushroom fields, at a random size. Out there they never grow any bigger: colonies only grow on Rich Soil. Red colonies generate exactly like brown ones.

Spreading and replanting
Section titled “Spreading and replanting”Bone meal makes more. On a wild cabbage, onion, tomato, carrot, potato or beetroot it works 80% of the time and plants one copy a few blocks away. It stops once there are 10 of the same plant within 4 blocks. On wild rice it works 30% of the time and drops a
Wild Rice item instead of spreading.
Sandy shrubs never generate alone; they only come with beach patches. They need sand below them. Bone meal always works on a shrub and puts a fresh ring of shrubs around it, and breaking one with a knife gives
Straw 30% of the time.

Cutting and cooking
Section titled “Cutting and cooking”A Cutting Board and a knife turn wild crops into seeds or crops plus a dye.
Six of them count as small flowers, so they also work in suspicious stew:

Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- You can’t place a block straight into a wild crop the way you can with grass. Break it first.
- They burn, and fire runs through a patch quickly.
- Oceans and caves show up in some biome lists, but a patch there needs dry ground under open sky, so you will hardly ever find one.
- Rich Soil gives wild crops no free bone meal.
